A solemn salad as a negotiation table, where halved eggs gather as delegates around the ceasefire.

A solemn salad shaped as a long negotiation table, built from rows of halved eggs as delegates and rectangular cucumber and carrot strips as the table. The arrangement symbolizes the ceasefire and talks between the parties in the Kremlin.

Ingredients

  • 1 cucumber
  • 3 large carrots
  • 8 eggs
  • 200 g smoked chicken fillet
  • 100 g mixed lettuce (e.g. lamb's lettuce, rocket, little gem)
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp coarse mustard
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Boil the eggs hard for 8-9 minutes, cool in cold water and peel.
  2. Slice the cucumber lengthwise into thick slabs of about 1 cm, then cut into rectangles 8-10 cm long.
  3. Peel the carrots and cut into long, thick rectangular slabs.
  4. Slice the smoked chicken fillet into thin strips.
  5. Wash and dry the lettuce, spread it down the center of a large platter as a base.
  6. Alternately arrange the cucumber and carrot slabs tightly together in the center as a long negotiation table.
  7. Cut the eggs in half lengthwise. Place the halves on both sides of the table, cut side down, as delegates.
  8. Dice the bell pepper and scatter around the lettuce surrounding the table.
  9. Mix mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, salt and pepper into a dressing. Drizzle over the salad just before serving.
  10. Distribute the chicken strips as 'dossiers' between the eggs at the table.

Serving notes

  • Serve neatly arranged, with the table in the center and eggs clearly as delegates.
  • Offer the dressing separately for personal preference.
  • Serve with rustic bread for a complete meal.
