Tiramisu with ladyfingers as a telephone handset: comforting, warm, and a nod to the news.

A warm tiramisu in one dish, with ladyfingers standing upright in a line like an old-fashioned telephone receiver. The line symbolizes the first phone call in years between mother and son. The dish offers comfort and warmth after a disaster, just like the news story.

Ingredients

  • 250 g mascarpone
  • 250 ml heavy cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 g fine granulated sugar
  • 1 pack ladyfingers (about 200 g)
  • 200 ml strong coffee
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon almond liqueur (optional)

Method

  1. Make strong coffee and let it cool. Optionally add almond liqueur.
  2. Separate the eggs. Beat the yolks with the sugar until pale and creamy.
  3. Mix in the mascarpone until smooth.
  4. Whip the cream until stiff and fold into the mascarpone mixture.
  5. Whip the egg whites until stiff and gently fold in.
  6. Briefly dip each ladyfinger in the coffee.
  7. In a wide, shallow dish, stand the ladyfingers upright in a straight row, leaning against each other to form the silhouette of a telephone handset.
  8. Spoon the mascarpone mixture around and partly over the row, keeping the line of ladyfingers visible.
  9. Dust with cocoa powder just before serving.

Serving notes

  • Serve the dish warm, straight from the oven if you want a slightly warm tiramisu.
  • Keep the row of ladyfingers visible as a telephone handset: do not fully cover.
