DateOctober 13, 2026

A comforting soup with a visible nodule, just like the Pope’s scan.

A creamy cauliflower soup with a steamed half potato as a visible nodule in the center, surrounded by a circle of carrot slices like a lung cross-section. The nodule stands out, nodding to the Pope’s operation.

Ingredients

  • 1 large cauliflower
  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 2 large carrots
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 liter vegetable stock
  • 100 ml heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Method

  1. Cut the cauliflower into florets. Peel the potatoes; dice one, cut the other into four equal halves.
  2. Peel the carrots and slice them thinly.
  3. Chop the onion and finely mince the garlic.
  4. Heat olive oil in a soup pot. Sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
  5. Add cauliflower florets, potato cubes, and half the carrot slices. Sauté briefly.
  6. Pour in the stock and bring to a boil. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, steam or boil the four potato halves separately until tender (about 15 minutes).
  8. Puree the soup until smooth. Add cream, season with salt and pepper.
  9. Divide the soup among four deep plates. Place a potato half in the center as a nodule.
  10. Arrange the remaining carrot slices in a circle around the potato to resemble a lung cross-section.
  11. Optionally garnish with fresh parsley.

Serving notes

  • Serve with crusty bread.
  • Keep the nodule clearly visible in the center.
  • Mention the ‘scan’ when serving.
