Spicy salad shaped like a hurricane swirling along the coast, with sharp and fresh flavors.

A spicy Mexican salad with avocado, red onion, and lime, arranged as a hurricane above a coastline: red pepper spiral as the storm, cucumber as the coast. The sharp and tangy flavors mirror the tension of the threatening hurricane that doesn’t make landfall.

Ingredients

  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 1 cucumber
  • 2 avocados
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 limes
  • 200 g cherry tomatoes
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • salt and pepper
  • 50 g feta
  • fresh coriander

Method

  1. Slice the bell peppers into thin rings.
  2. Cut the cucumber into long, diagonal slices.
  3. Halve the avocados, remove the pit, and slice.
  4. Cut the red onion into thin half rings.
  5. Halve the cherry tomatoes.
  6. Slice the red chili into thin rings.
  7. Mix olive oil, white wine vinegar, juice of 1 lime, salt, and pepper into a dressing.
  8. Lay the cucumber slices on one side of a large platter as a coastline.
  9. Arrange the pepper rings in a spiral above the cucumber: this is the hurricane.
  10. Distribute avocado, onion, tomato, and chili over the pepper spiral.
  11. Crumble the feta over everything.
  12. Drizzle with the dressing and sprinkle with coriander and extra lime juice.

Serving notes

  • Serve with lime wedges for extra tang.
  • Use a large round plate so the hurricane shape is clearly visible.
