A salad shaped like a musical note, built from vegetables and mozzarella: singing right onto your plate!

This festive salad forms a musical note on the plate, built from rows of colorful vegetables and a half ball of mozzarella as the 'head'. A wink to Glee's iconic choir, with a setup that directly references their musical journey.

Ingredients

  • 1 head romaine lettuce
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 2 yellow bell peppers
  • 2 cucumbers
  • 16 cherry tomatoes
  • 2 balls mozzarella
  • 1 red onion
  • 4 tbsp green pesto
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lemon (juice)
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Wash the romaine lettuce and spread the leaves over a large flat platter as a base.
  2. Cut the bell peppers into long strips and the cucumbers into diagonal slices.
  3. Halve the cherry tomatoes and slice the red onion into thin rings.
  4. Cut the mozzarella in half to get four half balls.
  5. Lay the pepper and cucumber strips in a wavy line over the lettuce, as the stem of a musical note.
  6. Place a half ball of mozzarella at the end of each line as the note head.
  7. Decorate the lines with cherry tomatoes and red onion rings, as if they are notes on a staff.
  8. Mix the pesto with olive oil and lemon juice for a dressing. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Drizzle the dressing over the salad just before serving.

Serving notes

  • Serve on a large flat platter for best effect.
  • Let everyone take their own 'note'.
  • Pair with baguette for extra festivity.
