A tidy dessert parcel with a sharp surprise inside: sweet deception on your plate.

A neat dessert shaped like a US postal parcel, but with a sharp lemon cream filling that delivers a sting inside. The outside is carefully built from biscuits and chocolate, nodding to the fake labels scam.

Ingredients

  • 8 ladyfingers
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 200 ml whipping cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 lemon (zest and juice)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar

Method

  1. Line a small rectangular dish (about 10x15 cm) with baking paper.
  2. Place 4 ladyfingers side by side on the bottom to form a rectangle.
  3. Melt 150 g chocolate au bain-marie. Pour a thin layer over the ladyfingers.
  4. Separate the eggs. Beat the yolks with sugar, lemon zest, and juice until creamy.
  5. Dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tbsp water. Add to the egg mixture.
  6. Heat the mixture gently, stirring, until it thickens. Remove from heat, stir in butter, and let cool.
  7. Whip the cream until stiff and fold into the cooled lemon cream.
  8. Spread half the cream over the chocolate base.
  9. Place the remaining 4 ladyfingers on top, again as a parcel.
  10. Pour the rest of the chocolate over and let it set briefly.
  11. Spread the remaining lemon cream on top and smooth.
  12. Chill for at least 2 hours in the fridge.
  13. Cut into 4 parcels. Dust lightly with powdered sugar for the label effect.

Serving notes

  • Place each parcel on a separate plate, diagonally for a 'sent' look.
  • Draw a thin line of melted chocolate as an 'address label'.
