Roasted peppers and onion halves together create a tense airstrike on your plate.

Long, roasted green peppers and red pointed peppers are arranged like rockets on a plate, aiming at two grilled onion and lemon halves. The dish visually echoes the tense airstrikes, referencing the news about temporary ceasefire and missile attacks between Moscow and Kyiv.

Ingredients

  • 4 red pointed peppers
  • 4 green (mild) peppers
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp coarse sea salt
  • 1 tsp sumac (or lemon zest)
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (grill setting).
  2. Cut the onions in half horizontally and place cut side up on a baking tray.
  3. Cut the lemon in half.
  4. Brush onions and lemon halves with 1 tbsp olive oil, sprinkle with sumac and some sea salt.
  5. Place the red pointed peppers and green peppers whole next to the onions on the tray.
  6. Brush the peppers with the remaining oil and sprinkle with black pepper and sea salt.
  7. Roast everything for 25 minutes until the vegetables are dark and slightly charred.
  8. On a large flat plate, place a half onion and a half lemon on the left as 'landing sites'.
  9. Arrange the roasted peppers diagonally from the side toward the onions and lemon, like missiles landing.
  10. Serve immediately.

Serving notes

  • Serve on a large white plate so the arrow shape is clearly visible.
  • Offer a bowl of garlicky yogurt for dipping.
