A burger as Mars moon Phobos, complete with sample mound and red orbit, solemnly presented on the plate.

A round beef burger as Mars moon Phobos, resting on a mirror of mashed potatoes. A small mound of mushroom crumble represents the collected sample. The burger is encircled by a red bell pepper ring as the Mars orbit. The dish solemnly refers to the space mission.

Ingredients

  • 4 beef burgers (about 125 g each)
  • 800 g floury potatoes
  • 100 ml milk
  • 40 g butter
  • 250 g chestnut mushrooms
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Peel the potatoes, cut into pieces, and boil for 20 minutes until tender.
  2. Fry the beef burgers in 1 tbsp olive oil for 5-6 minutes per side until done.
  3. Finely chop the mushrooms and sauté in 1 tbsp olive oil until golden, season with salt and pepper.
  4. Drain the potatoes, mash with milk and butter until smooth, season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cut the bell pepper into wide rings.
  6. Spread the mashed potatoes as a flat mirror on each plate.
  7. Place the burger in the center as a domed moon.
  8. Form a small mound of sautéed mushrooms next to the burger as the sample.
  9. Lay a bell pepper ring around the burger as the Mars orbit.

Serving notes

  • Serve precisely: burger exactly in the center, pepper ring neatly around.
  • Optionally garnish with a few flat-leaf parsley leaves as a 'landing zone'.
