Stacked vegetables as a sharp microphone row: the White House press moment on your plate.

Spicy, stacked towers of grilled aubergine and bell pepper on a tangy base, shaped as the iconic press microphone row at the White House. The silhouette refers to the tense access to the press pool.

Ingredients

  • 2 aubergines
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • 100 g soft goat cheese
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 bunch chives (for microphone stems)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C on grill setting.
  2. Slice the aubergines into 1 cm thick rounds. Cut the bell peppers into wide strips of 2-3 cm.
  3. Place aubergine slices and bell pepper strips on a baking tray, brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and chili flakes.
  4. Grill the vegetables for 15 minutes until soft and lightly charred.
  5. Mix red wine vinegar, pressed garlic, and 1 tbsp olive oil into a dressing.
  6. Stack per person 2 aubergine slices alternating with bell pepper, finish with a dollop of goat cheese on top.
  7. Stick 2-3 chive stems upright in each tower to create a microphone row.
  8. Drizzle the dressing around and serve immediately.

Serving notes

  • Serve on a rectangular plate for the effect of a microphone bench.
  • Garnish with extra chili flakes for added tension.
  • Lay the chives as stems at an angle, for the press row.
