Tiramisu as a smartphone: sleek on the outside, a bitter surprise inside.

A tiramisu shaped like a smartphone, with a glossy chocolate screen and edible app icons made of fruit and candy. The top looks sleek and inviting, but inside is a sharp layer of strong coffee. This dessert puts the spotlight on digital temptation.

Ingredients

  • 250 g mascarpone
  • 200 ml whipping cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 g sugar
  • 200 ml strong espresso, cooled
  • 150 g ladyfingers
  • 50 g dark chocolate
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 kiwi
  • 4 strawberries
  • 8 blueberries
  • 8 small round winegums

Method

  1. Line a rectangular dish (about 20x12 cm, smartphone-shaped) with baking paper.
  2. Separate the eggs. Beat the yolks with the sugar until pale yellow.
  3. Whip the egg whites until stiff in a clean bowl.
  4. Whip the cream until soft peaks form.
  5. Mix mascarpone with the yolk mixture. Fold in the cream and egg whites to make a fluffy cream.
  6. Briefly dip the ladyfingers in espresso and cover the bottom of the dish.
  7. Spread half the mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers.
  8. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers and finish with the remaining cream.
  9. Chill for at least 3 hours to set.
  10. Melt the dark chocolate in a bain-marie. Pour onto baking paper in a thin rectangle (slightly smaller than the dish). Let harden.
  11. Dust the tiramisu lightly with cocoa powder. Place the chocolate slab as the 'screen' on top.
  12. Cut the kiwi, strawberries, and winegums into small squares and circles: make 3 rows of 4 app icons on the 'screen'. Place blueberries as notification dots in a corner.
  13. Serve in smartphone shape, with the 'screen' and icons clearly visible.

Serving notes

  • Serve on a large white plate so the smartphone shape stands out.
  • Provide small spoons as 'swiping' tools.
  • Optionally, add an extra row of winegums as 'addictive notifications' along the side.
