Tapped iPhone Tartare

An iPhone made of tartare: neat on the outside, with a sharp, raw twist inside.

Raw beef tartare shaped like an iPhone, with a thin avocado 'screen' and a sharp mustard seed 'wire'. Outwardly neat, but with a spicy core: the scandal is just below the surface. The silhouette is unmistakably a smartphone.

Ingredients

  • 400 g beef tartare
  • 2 avocados
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 tbsp capers
  • 1 tbsp coarse mustard
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 lemon
  • 8 small gherkins
  • 4 slices dark rye bread
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh. Mash with a little lemon juice until smooth.
  2. Mix the tartare with finely chopped red onion, capers, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cut the crusts off the rye bread and slice the bread into rectangles about 6x12 cm, like a smartphone shape.
  4. Spread a thin layer of avocado over the bread as a 'screen'.
  5. Shape the tartare into a 5x11 cm rectangle and place it centrally on the avocado layer.
  6. Mix the mayonnaise with a bit of lemon juice and put it in a piping bag. Draw a thin diagonal line across the 'screen' with mustard seeds as a wiretap line.
  7. Slice the gherkins thinly and place them at the bottom of the 'screen' as a home button and speaker.
  8. Serve one iPhone tartare per person on a plate.

Serving notes

  • Serve with extra gherkins and a small bowl of coarse mustard on the side.
  • Optionally garnish with some cress for a green 'notification'.
  • Give each guest a spoon to scoop the dish, as if scrolling through data.
