Teleprompter Trifle

Based on:

TypeDessert

Serves4 people

DateAugust 29, 2026

A trifle shaped like a teleprompter: smooth outside, sharp inside.

A layered trifle with clean lines of cake and cream, built like the recognizable teleprompter screen from the news. Neat on the outside, but each layer hides a sharp bite of bitter chocolate and tart berries – like a bet with insider knowledge.

Ingredients

  • 1 long pound cake (about 400 g)
  • 400 ml whipping cream
  • 250 g mascarpone
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 100 g dark chocolate (70%)
  • 200 g blueberries
  • 100 g raspberries
  • 100 ml orange juice
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar

Method

  1. Whip the cream with the sugar and vanilla sugar until stiff.
  2. Carefully fold the mascarpone into the whipped cream.
  3. Slice the cake into long 1 cm thick pieces, then cut into straight strips about 10 cm long.
  4. Roughly chop the dark chocolate.
  5. Briefly dip the cake slices in orange juice.
  6. On each plate, build a rectangular 'teleprompter' by placing three cake strips side by side, then add a layer of mascarpone cream, sprinkle with berries and chocolate pieces.
  7. Repeat with another layer of cake, cream, berries, and chocolate, until you have three layers. Finish with a smooth layer of cream.
  8. Place a thin slice of cake diagonally on top as the slanted edge of the teleprompter.
  9. Garnish with a few berries and a stripe of chocolate shavings as 'lines of text'.

Serving notes

  • Serve on white plates for a screen effect.
  • Always place the slanted cake slice on the same side for recognizability.
  • Arrange the chocolate as thin stripes, like lines of text.
