Lasagna rolls: neat on the outside, but the filling reveals a scandal, just like the news.

A neatly presented roll of lasagna sheets, filled with beef, tomato, and mozzarella, on a red sauce. Sliced and laid diagonally, the rolls form the silhouette of a music roll: tidy outside, with a 'scandalous' twist inside.

Ingredients

  • 12 fresh lasagna sheets
  • 700 g ground beef
  • 2 onions
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 cans diced tomatoes (400 g each)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 balls mozzarella
  • 100 g grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Finely chop the onions and garlic.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large pan, sauté onion and garlic for 3 minutes.
  4. Add the ground beef, cook until browned.
  5. Add tomato paste, cook for 2 more minutes.
  6. Add diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  7. Pre-cook the lasagna sheets according to package instructions, drain.
  8. Slice the mozzarella into thin slices.
  9. Take a lasagna sheet, spread with meat mixture, top with mozzarella, and roll up tightly.
  10. Repeat with all sheets. Place the rolls side by side in a baking dish with a thin layer of tomato sauce.
  11. Beat the egg, brush the tops of the rolls, and sprinkle with Parmesan.
  12. Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown.
  13. Slice the rolls diagonally and arrange them in a row on the plate to form a music roll silhouette.

Serving notes

  • Serve on a mirror of tomato sauce for the 'scandal' effect.
  • Sprinkle extra Parmesan on top for a neat exterior.
  • Lay the slices diagonally and tightly in a row: everyone will see the silhouette of a music roll.
