A lasagna door that blocks entry: neat outside, spicy inside.

A neatly built, closed white lasagna door of pasta and creamy sauce, with bright red tomatoes as forbidden entry signs. Polished and inviting outside, but with a spicy filling you don't expect. The silhouette of a closed door with 'forbidden' discs makes the news visible.

Ingredients

  • 12 fresh lasagna sheets
  • 1 large zucchini
  • 2 red bell peppers
  • 2 balls mozzarella
  • 400 g ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 400 ml passata
  • 200 ml cooking cream
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • 4 large vine tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • handful fresh basil

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  2. Slice the zucchini lengthwise, the peppers into strips, and the tomatoes into thick rounds.
  3. Sauté onion and garlic in 1 tbsp olive oil, add beef and brown.
  4. Add passata, chili flakes, salt, and pepper, simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Briefly grill zucchini and peppers with some oil and salt.
  6. Mix cooking cream with half the mozzarella (in pieces) and some pepper.
  7. Grease a baking dish. Layer: lasagna, meat sauce, grilled veggies, cream sauce. Repeat until used up.
  8. Finish with a lasagna sheet and the rest of the mozzarella.
  9. Place 4 thick tomato slices on top as 'no entry' signs, centered.
  10. Bake for 30 minutes until golden.
  11. After baking, cut the lasagna into a rectangle and stand it upright on the plate to form a closed door. Place the tomato slices as 'signs' in the middle of the door.
  12. Garnish with fresh basil around the door.

Serving notes

  • Serve upright as a sturdy lasagna door.
  • Let everyone choose their own 'entry' by taking a piece.
  • Serve with a green salad.
